With two and a half weeks left to go in my sophomore year at college, I thought I would share my experiences of the first half of my college years. When I got out of high school, I was so excited to go away to school, meet new people, and become a new person.
When I was looking at colleges, I remember getting all the pamphlets and reading about the schools before visiting them and I got an orange and black paw print and I fell in love. I wanted to go to SUNY Cobleskill; my mind was set. I met some great people who were also going there who lived nearby and I couldn’t be more excited. Figuring out who to room with and getting to experience new things! When I moved in to my dorm I was excited, scared, and most of all nervous! I figured out where my classes were pretty quickly and I learned the campus and was meeting new people everyday. The first semester was fun and then when it came time for the second semester I found that I had not talked to all the same people and everyone drifted away. I didn’t enjoy my major so I switched it to Graphic Design, which I loved. In the second semester, I was loving my major, but I didn’t have a solid friend group and I didn’t really love the school or felt like I fit in anywhere. So I made a decision to tranfer to a new school. It was the best decision of my life. I am so much happier at SUNY Plattsburgh. I have met so many amazing people right from the start that I am still friends with today. So here’s how my second year of college went compared to the first.
During the second semester of my freshman year, I decided to apply to SUNY Plattsburgh. I was a little nervous because I knew it was a harder school and didn’t know if I would be accepted, but I took a leap of faith and applied. A few weeks, months, days went by and one day I went on to see if I had been accepted and I had been! Okay, I was ready. I just had to make it through the rest of my time at Cobleskill. The summer came and I enjoyed my time being home and surrounded by my family and friends. I was so excited to be going to a new school and have a fresh start!
Over the summer I met some girls who were also going to Plattsburgh and I hung out with them and we got to know each other. I went to an overnight accepted transfer students day with my mom and it was the first time I realized I was in the right place. Everyone was so friendly, accepting, nice, and genuine. The people I met at the accepted students day I am still friends with today. I chose my major, Public Relations, because I love to write (if you have gotten this far I think you already figured that out…). My new friends and I were loving school, going out every weekend, meeting new people, exploring the area, shopping, and being free! I really have nothing bad to say about my year at Plattsburgh. I have had the most amazing roomate ever who has introduced me to so many nice people and we have had a lot of fun memories throughout the year, and have met new people in my classes and have created a lot of friendships. I love all the classes I am taking and I am so excited to study abroad next year. SUNY Plattsburgh is where I belong and I feel like it is home away from home with all of the comfort I have from my friends. 🙂
